After reports of two militants dead in an encounter in South Kashmir’s Tral, army Sunday evening identified them as belonging to JeM.

“Army and JKP in a joint operation today killed two foreign militants of JeM in Tral area of Awantipura. One Army personnel was injured during the operation,” an army statement said this late evening.

“Based on specific intelligence about the presence of some militants in village Kaigam, Pulwama district, a joint operation was launched by the Army and JKP today afternoon. As the cordon was being tightened around the suspected area where the militants were hiding, the militants opened a heavy volume of indiscriminate fire following which an intense exchange of fire ensued,” the statement said. “The encounter which lasted till about 6 PM today resulted in the death of two JeM militants identified as Adil Pathan and Burmee. The operation has also led to the recovery of two AK47 rifles and other war like stores from the slain terrorists.”

The statement further said that the army personnel is reported to be stable.
