Executive body of Tehreek-e-Huriyat met at Hyderpora Srinagar, residence cum office of Syed Ali Geelani on Sunday to participate in decision of choosing the chairman and the executive body members of the party.

According to spokesman, all the executive members participated and unanimously a resolution was adopted and an amendment was passed. The tenure for chairman and executive was extended for one year.

The meeting was presided by Syed Ali Geelani.

The spokesman said “keeping in view the consultative & democratic setup, elections to executive council and office bearers are held after every three years and as per schedule the elections to the body was scheduled on August 2016, however were differed due to unavoidable circumstances & people’s uprising.” “To facilitate the smooth, function a resolution was moved by general secretary Mohammad Ashraf Sehrai, in which it was suggested to extend the tenure of chairman and its executive body. The move was supported by all members and latter amendment in this regard was permitted. In a unanimous voice, all members requested Syed Ali Geelani & executive council to continue & lead party,” he added.

Geelani in his presidential address said that Tehreek-e-Huriyat is not mere an organisation but a movement and a revolution. We are striving against Indian rule, unification among Muslim & adoration of Islam, said Syed Ali Geelani.

Geelani said the social, political and religious aspects of Tehreek-e Huriyat are unique and since its inception presented unparalleled sacrifices. Our party activists during detentions are exhibiting exemplary persistence in jails and interrogation centres, said Geelani.
