SRINAGAR

The supporters of incumbent People’s Democratic Party MLA from Rajpora Constituency staged protest outside Mufti Sayeed’s Gupkar residence and demanded mandate in favour Syed Bashir Ahmed.

Reports said that soon after the PDP announced mandate for economist Dr Haseeb Ahmed Drabu for Rajpora Constituency, scores of supporters of present MLA Syed Bashir took to streets and staged a massive protest outside Housing Colony in Pulwama which houses top politicians and legislative members. The protestors amid anti-party slogans castigated Mufti Muhammad Sayeed for ignoring their present MLA.

Eyewitnesses told CNS that these protestors later on drove their vehicles towards Srinagar and staged a protest outside PDP president’s official Gupkar residence. “The present MLA has worked a lot for the people of Rajpora and denying mandate to him is injustice towards people,” one of the protestors said.

When contacted PDP leader Syed Bashir said that he has no control over his party workers. “I have already accepted the party decision whole heartedly and I will obey whatever party demands from me,” Syed said adding that some of his supporters are angry and it is the duty of the party high command to pacify them.

The different localities Rajpora Constituency including Drubgam, Chekbadri Nath, Shahora, Sherpathri and Arihal have appreciated party patron for awarding mandate to Dr Haseeb Ahmed Drabu. The residents said that Drabu is a knowledgeable and cultured person and they expect a lot from him.

Meanwhile, MLA Shopian and senior PDP leader Abdul Razak Zawoora termed the reports baseless that he and his party workers are angry with the party patron for awarding mandate to Muhammad Yousuf Bhat. “I am an old fellow and am unable to walk properly. I had requested Mufti Muhammad Sayeed to choose another candidate for Shopian Constituency who could work in the interest of people. We all will support our new candidate and will follow all the instructions from the party in letter and spirit,” he said adding that some of supporters showed resentment.
