Rain Water creates havoc in Kishtwar

The people of ward no. 13 of Municipal Committee Kishtwar are facing lot of hardships due to under construction road from House of Lakhmi Chand to Upper Malipath which is under construction for last over 20 years by the Roads and Building Department .

The people living in the area informed that the road has become cause of nuisance for them threatening their homes and property particularly as and when rains lash the area and in similar incident last night, the torrential rains hit many parts of Kishtwar district as a result of which the rain and muddy water enters into the houses of many people defacing their homes and underground water tanks.

Arshad Hussain Naik, a local said, the under construction road outside his residence has become a matter of concern for him and other people traveling on this road.

“Due to fault of the department and the contractor, the innocent people who after toiling hard are constructing their homes were facing the miseries and brunt of the Contractor and Departmental apathy,” he alleged.

He said that he gave away his land for construction on two sides of his plot for which the department is even yet to pay compensation to him or the other people who also provided the land for the road. “After earth cutting, the contractor dumped the material haphazardly and in the middle of the road which becomes a headache for the commuters including for the school going children’s,” he said.

He said that it is a known fact that Kishtwar is reeling under acute water crises. “All the water saved by them in last few months becomes useless due to passage of muddy and rain water into the tank and thus makes it non-useable,” he said.

The locals urged upon the senior officials of the department to look into the matter and prevent them from day to day miseries.
