Jibran NazirA Final Year student from Sopore missed his examination paper after he was allegedly detained by police for not having an Identity Card with him.

Visibly distressed student Jibran Nazir Dar from Model Town Sopore who was released from police station Baramulla only after his examination paper ‘Media Laws and Ethics’ was over on Saturday said that he was on way to Government Degree College for Boys Baramulla when a police Naka party stopped him outside the College. “A police officer demanded Identity Card from me. I was not having the same and instead displayed my online Roll number (55025) slip. He didn’t listen to me and despite informing him that I am supposed to reach my examination centre vide number 178, he bundled me into the police vehicle and detained me at police station Baramulla,” Jibran Nazir said.

“Police officer arrested me at 10:45 AM and released me at 3 PM only when the examination paper was over. When my fellow students reached police station and told the officer that he has ruined his career and they will protest against his illegal act, the police officer before releasing me registered a written complaint against me under section 109,” he said.

Additional Superintendent of Police Baramulla Manzoor Ahmed while terming the incident “unfortunate” said that he talked to the police officer who claimed that the “student was not having any document with him and furthermore he misbehaved with the policemen”.

It is worth to mention here that the police complaint, a photocopy of which lies with CNS reads, “Dy SP Operations noted the suspicious movement of Jibran Nazir Dar who tried to flee from the spot after coming across a police party.
