Former Finance Minister and National Conference leader Abdul Rahim Rather Friday while refuting the claims of the PDP that the administrative mess and financial liabilities are a backlog of NC-Congress coalition said that if such would have been the case, the previous government would have not been able to pay arrears up to the tune of Rs 4200 crores to State employees.

“We are not responsible for the present financial crunch in the state. During our rule, we paid salaries to employees without any delay and treasuries were never empty during previous government’s tenure. PDP forgets that it was NC-Congress government that implemented 6th Pay Commission and cleared arrears to the government employees,” Rather told CNS adding that PDP led government is misleading people and spreading lies that have no basis.

He said that during NC-Congress government transactions had been taking place in an efficient manner and the finances were also structured in an appropriate manner.

“We never allowed liabilities to mount but this government seems to be so inexperienced  that instead of managing finances and transactions smoothly, it is wasting time in blame game,” Rather said.

Rather said that his party fails to understand the policies pursued by the present government. “The government has failed to deliver and to hide their failures, PDP has started accusing us for the fiscal mess in the state. We don’t know what this government wants to prove. Daily wagers and employees have been staging protests on daily basis demanding their salaries. There is no development and common man has now started expressing his resentment against the present government,” he said.

Responding to a question, former Finance Minister said that everything was smooth till floods hit Valley in September 2014.

“During our time, treasuries were never empty and we even provided salaries to the daily rated workers. Despite an alliance partner of BJP which rules the country, PDP is unable to get financial assistance from the Centre,” he said.

Rather said that government which had made huge promises during elections is engulfed in controversies. Controversy after controversy has been the achievement of the coalition government so far.
