Stressing that private sector in Kashmir should be promoted as a means of major source of livelihood to deal with the problem of unemployment and weak economy, Hurriyat Conference (M) Chairman Mirwaiz Umar Farooq Monday said that Kashmir’s youth should explore ways to become economically self reliant instead of being dependent on government jobs.

While inaugurating an industrial unit, “Al Zaiqah Spices,” established by the upcoming entrepreneur Zahoor Ahmad Rather at Bagh-e-Mardaan industrial estate, Mirwaiz while applauding the entrepreneur for starting the unit stated that such steps of youth should be encouraged as it would to pave the way for bringing economic self reliance in Kashmir.

“There is a need to generate employment opportunities by promoting industry in manufacture as well as service sectors. There is no dearth of talent in Kashmir. The youth of this place can prove their talent and capabilities if they come forward with confidence and take the challenge to build a self reliant economic foundation to eliminate poverty and unemployment from Kashmir. Economically self reliant people can pursue the movement for their rights with more confidence and determination,” he said in a statement to KNS.

Mirwaiz said many youth, despite having high educational qualifications, were suffering from psychological depression due to unemployment. “There is no dearth of opportunity in Kashmir. It is unfortunate that instead of manufacturing essential products on local level, we are importing them from outside,” the Hurriyat (M) chairman said.

He advised the unemployed youth to establish smaller industrial units in Kashmir which would benefit local economy, create employment opportunities and would help in marketing Kashmiri products outside the state.

Former FCCI Chairman Shakeel Qalandar, Bagh-e-Mardan industrial unit head, Mohammad Afzal, local entrepreneurs and large number people were present on the inaugural ceremony.
