On the first Friday after former CM Mufti Mohammad Sayeed’s death, as customary, Mehbooba Mufti with her family and partisans visited Dara Shikoh garden and prayed at the grave of her father.

Mehbooba was accompanied by her brother, Sayeed Tasaduk, and her sisters besides senior Peoples Democratic Party members.

Amid moist eyes, floral wreath was laid on the grave of Mufti Sayeed by his family and party members.

However, hundreds of workers who had arrived were seen disappointed as, the PDP president, Mehbooba Mufti remained confined to “few waves and remained mum”.

“We were desperately waiting for Mehbooba Ji’s address,” a PDP worker who had come from Awantipora said.

As there is no official word on whether PDP shall continue its alliance with Hindu nationalist BJP, Mehbooba too was silent in her first public appearance since the day late Mufti Sayeed was laid to rest.

However, talking to media, former Education Minister in late Mufti Sayeed led PDP-BJP coalition, Naeem Akhtar said, “no decision has been yet been taken.” “We are all mourning the death of our leader and party has not yet talked on government formation. All the top party members and Mehbooba Ji will talk shortly and proper decision will be taken on board.”

Interestingly, as common people could see brother of Mehbooba Mufti and noted cinematographer, Sayeed Tasaduk, rumours started making rounds that “he too is joining politics, now”.

Meanwhile, PDP thanked party cadres and people of the state in general including various social organizations, unions and associations who stood with the bereaved family in this hour of grief.

“People have immense respect and love for late Mufti Sahab and our party is thankful to them for remembering him in their prayers and being with us. He thanked the party workers who sympathised with the leadership on mufti Sahab’s sad demise,” PDP said in a statement this evening.
