Strongly condemning the killing of teenager Suhail Ahmad Sofi in forces firing at Narbal, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) President and Member Parliament, Ms Mehbooba Mufti Saturday said it is a matter of grave concern that the Standard Operational Procedure (SOP) was reportedly not adhered to while dealing with the protesters.
“Now that FIR has been lodged in the tragic incident and a magisterial probe ordered, I am sure the investigation would be taken to the logical conclusion and action taken against the personnel involved in the incident,” Mehbooba said in a statement.
She said it is a very serious matter that SOP was not followed while dealing with the protesters and “we expect the command and control of the forces involved in the incident to take note of it and ensure strict adherence to SOP not only during normal situations but during any kind of protests as well.”
“Taking investigations to the logical conclusion would not only act as a deterrent against such situations in future but would also restore the shattered public confidence in such investigations,” she said and added that with no action being taken in such situations has over a period of time only led to dwindling credibility in the system of delivery of justice.
Expressing heartfelt sympathies and solidarity with the bereaved family, Mehbooba said PDP stands with the people and the party would ensure that justice prevails.
