Jama’at-e-Islami Jammu and Kashmir Tuesday expressed concern over the plight of Kashmiri detenues in different jails of Jammu particularly the district jail Kathua.
“There are more than fifty Kashmiri detenues in the district jail Kathua and all of them are facing the worst type of treatment from the jail authorities which has made their jail life a hell,” a Jama’at statement said adding “They are kept under the jail lock ups continuously for 23 hours and allowed to move out of the barracks for an hour only resulting in development of various ailments and health hazards.”
Jama’at said that the said detenues are not being allowed to meet their relatives as per the jail manual once in a week but only one meeting to each detenue is allowed in 15 days.
As per the statement every new detenue soon after reaching the jail premises, is completely disrobed and kept in open before all including the visitors from Kashmir and mercilessly beaten before allowing them to go into the jail.
Jama’at-e-Islami Jammu and Kashmir has in its statement vehemently condemned the “inhumane” attitude of the Kathua jail authorities towards the Kashmiri detenues and appealed the human rights forums to visit the jail and take necessary measures for the protection of the human rights of the inmates.
