The Turkish filmmaker: Selma Koksal

As a part of International Film Festival of Kashmir 2014, a Turkish Filmmaker will conduct film Master Class with aspiring filmmakers and students on August 22, a statement said on Wednesday.

Selma Koksal, the Turkish filmmaker and professor in Cinema Studies has arrived in summer capital on Wednesday to participate in International Film Festival of Kashmir (IFFK) 2014 organized by Experimental Moving Images and Theatre Association (XMITA), the statement informed.

Selma Koksal’s feature film BAHAR ISYANCIDIR (Spring is rebellious) has been nominated for IFFK 2014, it said.

The Turkish Film Maker shall conduct the Master Class and interact with students of Islamic University of Science and Technology (IUST), Central University of Kashmir (CUK) and University of Kashmir on August 22. Besides, there are few more participants including amateur film makers and college students.

Born in Istanbul, Selma has done PhD in Cinema from Marmara University Fine Arts Faculty’s Cinema TV Department.

After working at Maltepe University, Beykent University, Bilgi University and Okan University, she is currently working as Associate Professor at Beykent University in Istanbul.

She made her directorial debut in cinema in 1999 with a 35mm short film, “Karşılaşma” (Crossing), which was screened at several festivals in Turkey and overseas. Her second film “Çarpışma“(‘Intersection’), in 2002 nominated Best fiction in İFSAK Short and Documentary Film Festival. Her first feature-length film “Fikret Bey” (2007)” was screened at several festivals and competitions in Turkey and overseas.

Besides filmmaking, Selma has been associated with theatre as actor and director since 1990s.
