Elaborate security arrangements have been made for security of polling booths and voters for smooth conduct of peaceful polling in fifth phase of elections in Jammu Division, scheduled to be held on December 20, 2014.

This was disclosed by Director General of Police (DGP), K. Rajendra Kumar, while chairing a high level security meeting of police, Para-military and intelligence agencies held at Police Control Room (PCR) here today. The meeting reviewed the security arrangements put in place by different security agencies for the fifth phase of polling in 20 assembly constituencies of Jammu Division.

He said that elaborate security arrangements have been made for the security and deployment of personnel around the polling booths for smooth and peaceful conduct of polling in these constituencies.

During the meeting, Rajendra sought detailed reports from the police officers and other security agencies with regard to security and deployment of personnel, made in their respective jurisdictions.

Rajendra stressed upon the officers to ensure high alertness, especially in the border areas to check any infiltration attempt. He said that in view of the recent developments on the other side of border, we have to remain extra vigilant as the subversive elements could try to disrupt the peaceful atmosphere in the State. He asked to conduct Naka checking and identify any illegal activity or suspicious movement in these areas.

The DGP asked the officers to implement the contingency plan already chalked out to meet any exigency. He said that Zonal and Sector Officers should remain in touch with Election Cell, established in PCR, which is functioning round the clock. He asked to strengthen the communication network to react quickly any arising situation during the polls.

During the meeting, the DGP was apprised by the officers about the deployment of forces and preventive measures put in place to ensure peaceful polling in all the constituencies going for polls.

Rajendra stressed upon the officers that maintenance of law and order should be focussed on priority during polls, so that people could participate in the democratic process in a congenial atmosphere.

Rajendra appreciated men and officers for their tireless efforts during the past four phases of polling which ensured incident free elections. He said that dedication and commitment of the forces ensured law and order during the hectic political activities in the State.

Among other, the meeting was attended by ADsGP, VK Singh and SM Sahai, IsGP, Dr. B. Srinivas and Rajesh Kumar, Commissioner SB Jammu, IG BSF Jammu and IG CRPF, Jammu, DIsGP, Shakeel Ahmed Beig and Surinder Gupta, DIG SSB Jammu, Dy Director IB Jammu, SSsP, Uttam Chand, Ashok Kumar and Shyam Surinder.
