Srinagar

A group of parents Saturday alleged that some Government as well as Private Schools in Srinagar city have been forcing their wards to participate in India’s January 26 Republic Day parade.

The parents said that they are anxious and concerned about their kids as recently threatening posters appeared in different parts of Valley asking students to refrain from participating Republic Day parade. “Who will ensure their security after the Parade? We are the part of the society and we have to live here. Besides, our conscience doesn’t allow us to permit our kids to participate in the Parade as Valley witnessed bloodshed in recent past,” they said.

They alleged that last year as well the Principal of a Girls Higher Secondary School had warned students that they will be shown ‘failed’ in their practical subjects if they refuse to participate in August 15 celebrations at Bakshi Stadium. “We have decided to hit to streets and expose these elements in public in case they continue to force our children particularly girl students to participate in India’s Republic and Independence Day celebrations,” the parents said.
