J&K Government imposed curfew-like restrictions in Trehgam area of north Kashmir’s Kupwara district on Wednesday in wake of Trehgam ‘Chalo’ call issued by the resistance leadership through its protest calendar.

The presence of military and paramilitary troopers on different entry spots to the village was beefed up as the village was expecting a rush of pro-freedom rallies from neighbouring villages.

The entry spots near the main market were closed with coils of barbed wires.

The locals said that the army, CRPF and police men were deployed in the paddy fields early in the morning.

“The forces stopped the vehicles and people were allowed to enter the village after they confirmed their identity and destiny,” eye witnesses said.

The locals alleged that the presence of forces in the fields created unnecessary trouble and undesirable conditions for people working there.

Notably, on Tuesday evening, the village saw an incident of stone-pelting between a group of boys and a police party which remain deployed in the village market.

Kashmir has been witnessing pro-freedom protests and strikes since July 09, a day after popular militant commander Burhan Wani was killed by forces in south Kashmir.

Government imposed curfew in Qaimoh in Kulgam and severe restrictions in Wakura Ganderbal while as clashes erupted in Hajin when forces tried to foil a similar pro-freedom rally.
