KISHTWAR

Scores of faithful were stopped from coming out of Jamia Masjid Kishtwar after people rose up in arms against the nocturnal raids and arrests.

J&K Government imposed curfew on Sunday in the Chenab Valley district following protests and clashes against arrests made by police.

Police have identified as many three dozen people allegedly involved in “anti-India” activities. They have been charged against sedition and among four arrested, so far, two have been booked under Public Safety Act (PSA).

However, on Tuesday, the government relaxed curfew for four hours from 12 O’ Clock in the day.

“People offered Zuhr Namaz in Jamia Masjid Kishtwar after which they held protests against the arrests,” eye witnesses said.

“They tried to come out of the Jamia Masjid but police, CRPF, SSB men have been deployed in huge numbers which are not allowing them to come out,” they said. However, protests are still going on. The eye witnesses said that people raised pro-freedom and anti-India slogans which reverberated through loudspeakers.

Sources said that forces were deployed outside the main entrance to Jamia Masjid Kishtwar. “People which included females as well were not allowed to come out from the main entrance which leads to Kishtwar-Jammu highway,” eye witnesses said.

Later, the protesting people used another entrance from hindsight and dispersed off peacefully.
