SRINAGAR

One sister was killed while another was seriously injured when they were hit by an unknown Scorpio on Tuesday morning in Srinagar.

A cop at Police Station Parimpora said that it was around 6:45 AM today that a vehicle which was on its way to Srinagar stopped near Fruit Mandi ‘Check Post’ in Parimpora-Qamarwari road. “It suddenly stopped and drove in reverse direction very fast,” the cop said while quoting some eye witnesses.

The vehicle hit two sisters who were on their routine morning walk. “The reports we are receiving is that there might have been some stone pelting in the area which prompted the driver (of the said vehicle) to stop and drive in reverse direction,” the cop said but added police are yet collecting the data.

One of the two sisters died on the spot while another was rushed to SMHS Hospital Srinagar probably by the same driver. “There is no information about the driver yet,” the cop said.

A police official identified the slain girl as Fozia Akhtar (20), daughter of Muhammad Sadiq of Gulab Bagh Parimpora.

She was a 2nd year student while her younger sister Nadia Akhtar, a class 12th student, is battling for life in the hospital.

Doctors at SMHS hospital said that she (Nadia) is critically injured and is being treated at the hospital.

“We haven’t lodged any FIR yet. We are trying to ascertain the facts but all efforts are on to trace and nab the unknown Scorpio driver,” said a police official.
