In an attempt to draw attention of Foreign Minister and Indian diplomats who are attending the 71st United Nations General Assembly (UNGA), independent legislator Er Rashid on Monday led a protest demonstration in Srinagar, however, he was arrested.

Rashid tried to lead a protest march towards United Nations office at Sonwar here. However, he stopped by a large contingent of police which bundled him in police vehicle along with his activists.

Holding placards seeking implementation of United Nations Security Resolutions on Kashmir, Rashid thanked Prime Minister of Pakistan, Mian Muhammad Nawaz Sharif, for “raising Kashmir issue and demanding plebiscite in Kashmir”.

Ms Swaraj is expected to respond to said speech of Sharif today.

“Thanks Nawaz Sharif,” read one placard held by activists of Rashid which numbered over 150. “Now Sushma Swaraj, It Is Your Turn, Say Yes To Plebiscite,’ read another one.

“The activists, at least 180, continued pro-Kashmir sloganeering inside police station as well,” he said.

Kashmir is observing shutdown on straight 80th day on Monday as at least 89 civilians have been killed while over 13500 others were injured by police, CRPF and Rashtriya Rifles men since the current mass civil uprising was triggered by the death of popular militant commander Burhan Wani.
