United States Secretary of State John Kerry who arrived in India on Tuesday is expected to take up the tension between India and Pakistan over the disputed Kashmir region, Pakistan media reported.

Dawn News, while quoting a senior US official, reported that Kerry would urge Modi in a meeting on Wednesday to open talks with neighbouring Pakistan to resolve tension over Kashmir.

“We have a long-standing policy of encouraging and advocating for great dialogue between the two countries on addressing areas of difference, and that continues to be our position,” a senior US official was quoted in the report before the expected talks.

Meanwhile, Pakistan Interior Minister Chaudhary Nisar Ali Khan has said the just struggle of Kashmiri people for their Right to Self Determination cannot be suppressed through the use of force.

According to Radio Pakistan, Nisar said this while talking to the newly elected President of Pakistan-administered Kashmir (PaK) Masood Khan who called on him in Islamabad on Tuesday.

While congratulating the former diplomat over his election, Nisar expressed the confidence that Khan would devote all his energy for the development of “Azad Kashmir and highlight the Kashmir dispute at the international level”, the report said.
