Hundreds of men in uniform on Wednesday morning raided Anchar locality in Soura area of Srinagar.

Local sources from the area said that police and CRPF men cordoned the whole area before started firing tear gas, PAVA shells and pellets ‘indiscriminately’.

“Forces raided our area around 10:30 AM,” a local told Kashmir Life over phone.

“They barged in to homes, beat up inmate ruthlessly including women,” he said.

“When people protested, the forces fired scores of tear gas canisters and clashes erupted which are still going on,” the local said.

The locals said that the forces resorted to ransacking and damaged private property.

“They have now cordoned Jinab Sahab Anchaar,” they added, “the forces resorted to intense aerial firing to scare people but protests and clashes are going.”

They said that forces had raided the area to make arrests.

Police spokesperson told Kashmir Life, “we do not resort to tood phood.”
