Ceasefire violations in Jammu and Kashmir continue after Indian and Pakistani armies resorted to cross border firing along Line of Control (LoC) and International Border (IB).

On Wednesday morning, Army’s Northern command tweeted about the alleged ceasefire violations by their Pakistani counterparts.

The army tweet said, “Indian forces strongly retaliated.”

A BSF officer and a civilian were injured in heavy shelling and firing by the Pakistan Rangers on the International Border (IB) in Jammu district, reports said on Wednesday.

“Two persons including a Border Security Force (BSF) assistant sub-inspector and a civilian were injured in the nightlong Pakistan shelling and firing,” a news report quoting a police officer said. “Pakistan Rangers resorted to indiscriminate mortar shelling and automatic gunfire during the night in R S Pura sector.”

Meanwhile, on Tuesday Pakistan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs in a statement said, “two civilian and an infant were killed from past two days due to the firing from the opposite side.”

Pakistan lodged a protest against the ceasefire violation, by summoning Indian deputy high Commissioner.

“The Indian Deputy High Commissioner was summoned by the Director General (SA & SAARC) today,” the statement issued by Pakistan FO on Tuesday said.

“A strong protest was lodged against the unprovoked ceasefire violations on 23-24 October 2016, by the Indian occupation forces at the Working Boundary in Phuklian and Chaprar Sectors, which resulted in martyrdom of two civilians including one and a half years old innocent baby girl. Six civilians were also injured as a result of the Indian shelling,” the statement added.

“It was conveyed to the Indian side that it should investigate the incident and share the findings with Pakistan,” the statement mentioned adding, “(the Indian side was told to) instruct its troops to respect the Ceasefire in letter and spirit, refrain from intentionally targeting the villages and maintain peace on the Working Boundary.”

Since the Indian Army on Sep, 29, 2016 said that its “special forces carried out surgical strikes along LoC in Kashmir,” ceasefire violations are a daily norm along LoC.
