The suspected militant, who was killed in an ‘encounter’ with government forces in Sivar-Kavairi in North Kashmir’s Kupwara district on Monday morning, was laid to rest amid pro-freedom slogans, the reports said.

The reports reaching here said that encounter that broke out early in the morning in a residential house, lasted for half an hour after forces launched search operation in Lolab village.

An eyewitness informed Kashmir Life over phone, “After forces stated firing at the house of Abdul Ahad Najar, people from surrounding areas, begun marching towards the Sivar village amid pro-freedom and anti-India slogans that  resulted in clashes between locals and government forces.”

Later, one body was recovered from the encounter site but the identity of killed person couldn’t be ascertained.  The ‘unidentified militant’ was later laid to rest in the same village.

Hundreds of people participated in the funeral procession of the slain militant and raised pro-freedom slogans, the reports said.

“One weapon has been recovered from the encounter site, “a Srinagar based defence spokesperson told Kashmir Life, “the search operation is still going on in the area.”
