As soon as cordon and search operation ended in a village in South Kashmir’s Shopian district on Saturday morning, intense clashes erupted between forces and civilians.

Reports and local sources said that men in uniform including those from Rashtriya Rifles, CRPF and police raided and launched search operations in Hefshirmal area of Shopian district during wee hours today.

“The forces searched some houses,” reports said. “The sudden raid and search operation created tensions in the area.”

“As the forces started moving out of the village,” they said, “people came out of their homes and raised pro-freedom slogans.”

The local sources said that youths resorted to stone pelting. “Forces came down from their vehicles and fired scores of tear gas shells and the clashes ensued.” “However, the situation came under control after forces left the village.”

Reports said that district is observing a complete shutdown today. At least five shops were burnt last late night on Teng road Shopian.
