Stone-Pelting-in-Kashmir

Intense clashes erupted in Palhallan area on Saturday when government forces resorted to ‘unprovoked’ pellet firing and teargas shelling over a ‘peaceful’ procession marching towards Srinagar-Baramulla highway.

A local informed Kashmir Life over phone that people had assembled peacefully outside the premises of Markaze Jamia Masjid. “The program was going on smoothly and once it was over people decided to move towards a local graveyard, from where they decided to move towards highway where they will culminate the march. Once the procession moved towards main road,  around 7 police vehicles were already stationed there and they resorted to pellet firing and teargas shelling in which at least 15 recieved minor injuries.”

Protesters were chased away in the beginning however they re-assembled and started pelting stones on the men in uniform, they said.

“Police officials were hurling abuses and were threatening of dire consequences to the protesters. Then locals made announcements through masjid loudspeakers asking people to come out of their houses,” added another local.

Locals, including men and women  came out of their houses and started marching towards Wuyssan Army camp.  “And back home, all roads have been blocked by police,” he added.

Clashes were going on when reports last came in.

Pertinently the people had assembled in support of the joint resistance leadership’s Saturday call to ‘assemble and march towards the houses of local MLA’s.
