Pakistan on Thursday summoned Indian Deputy High Commissioner JP Singh to lodge a protest over the killing of a civilian in an incident of firing across the Line of Control (LoC) a day earlier.

Ceasefire violations along the LoC were reported continuously and Pakistan said that one man was killed while five others were injured in alleged firing by Indian troops.

FO Spokesperson Nafees Zakaria, during a weekly press briefing on Thursday, claimed that India had violated the ceasefire agreement more than 90 times in 2016 alone.

A senior FO official handed over a demarche to the Indian deputy high commissioner containing details regarding “losses due to” Indian firing and shelling in the Karela sector on Wednesday, reports said.

Islamabad in its demarche asked New Delhi to avoid targeting civilians residing across the LoC.

Pakistan also handed over a demarche to representatives of the United Nations Military Observers group in India and Pakistan (UNMOGIP) protesting against the “Indian Army’s targeting” of Pakistani civilians across the LoC.

General Headquarters lodged a protest with UNMOGIP representatives against the use of heavy mortar shells by the Indian Army that resulted in the death of a civilian at the LoC, Zakaria said. Pakistan demanded the UNMOGIP to immediately investigate the matter.
