Srinagar

Going by the Prime Minister’s suggestion to convert their stories of valour into comic books, the CRPF has released a comic tale. It is based on the attempted raid by Lashkar militants on Srinagar airport on January 16, 2001 in which three CRPF personnel and two civilians were killed, media reports said.

The 40-page coloured comic tale, titled Shaurya Baathas (Valour Stories) is aimed at boosting the morale of the CRPF that is massively deployed in Kashmir after BSF was withdrawn and sent to borders.

CRPF has released nine comic books so far. Earlier publications have told the stories from Chinese war, Ayodha temple attack and Parliament attack. Funds generated by these publications are being utilized for welfare issues of the paramilitary force. The Srinagar airport attack book will have a 20,000 print run.

Media reports said that the CRPF is working on almost a dozen such books. The next in line is a story on how the militant attack on Raghunath Temple in Jammu was managed.

A sizable chunk of the three lakh CRPF is deployed in Kashmir. It has lost nearly 150 of its members in Kashmir in last four years. This excludes the injured whose number runs in several hundred, reports said
