Infantry Day was celebrated at Badami Bagh Cantonment where Lt Gen Gurmit Singh, Chinar Corps paid tributes to the martyrs by laying wreath at the War Memorial.  Large number of officers, Junior Commissioned Officers Jawans and the families also paid homage to the infantrymen who laid down their lives for their motherland.

While addressing the officers and jawans, the General Officer extorted them to keep themselves abreast with the existing environment prevailing   and be prepared to meet any future challenges. Tea with jawans, barakhana and various other activities were organised to celebrate the Infantry Day.

The day is celebrated to commemorate the ‘heroic action’ on October 27, 1947 when the first Indian Army contingent was airlifted into Srinagar to defend India’s sovereignty and territorial integrity and for the sacrifices made by the Awam to uphold their honour and dignity.
