The youth hailing from Bandipora who had suffered injuries during clashes between protesters and forces in Rangreth area on the outskirts of Srinagar on Thursday has succumbed to his injuries, reports said.

The youth was identified as Nazir Ahmad, a resident of Ashtangoo Bandipora.

The youth was critically wounded after bullet hit him following clashes between youth and Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) personnel.

He was immediately rushed to JVC hospital Srinagar where he was provided necessary first aid and was shifted to SKIMS Srinagar for specialized treatment. However he succumbed to his injures while been operated upon, medical sources said.

Locals in Rangreth alleged that forces ‘target fired’ at Nazir Ahmad when he was standing near a local shop.

Reports said that Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) personnel were withdrawing from the area when they came under stone-pelting.

“They (SSB) resorted to aerial firing to disperse the protesters. One youth was injured,” they added.

Body of the slain youth has been taken to his native place, reports said,
