Government says that road across Parangla into Himachal Pardesh will provide all weather access to Leh, Ladakh.

This was affirmed by government in Legislative Assembly on Tuesday, responding to the question of Congress lawmaker Nawang Rogzan Jora.

This road is also aimed to boost economic and trade activities in the Ladakh region.

A preliminary project, the documents reveals, for the construction of road from Karzok in Leh District to Kibber in Lahoul Spiti, has been formulated at an estimated cost of rupees 80 crore under Central Road Fund.

Meanwhile BEACON has forwarded a pre-feasibility report for construction of 6.12 kilometers long tunnel on Chowkibal-Tangdar-Chamkot road.

This was mentioned in the government document presented in Legislative Assembly on Tuesday by R&B department while replying to the question of MLA Advocate Bashir Ahmad.

Ministry of defence, the report mentions, has listed the proposal under priority-II. The detailed feasibility works of the tunnel has been planned 2017-18 and 2018-19.
