The state government is scheduled to give away Chief Minister’s gold medals for honesty, integrity and meritorious public service besides Tabinda Gani bravery award on July 24.
But the family of Tabinda wants government to expedite justice delivery in her case.
Talking to KNS, Mohammad Iqbal the uncle of Tabinda said: “We have no issues with state award for bravery in her name, but we want to see justice is done in her case without any further delay.” Tabinda, the 14-year old girl was brutally raped and murdered at Langate Handwara on July 21, 2007. Pertinently, the incident had evoked massive protests all across Kashmir resulting into arrest of four accused-Azhar Mir of Langate, Sadiq Mir, Suresh Mochi of Rajasthan and Jahangir Bihari of West Bengal under sections 363/369/302/376-B who are presently in jail.
Iqbal said that seven years have passed since the incident took place but there seems no headway in the justice delivery system. “We appreciate the government for recognizing her bravery and instituting an award in her name but I appeal the government to expedite the justice delivery so that the culprits are brought to justice,” he added.
