SRINAGAR

Senior Hurriyat (G) leader Masrat Alam was arrested in Srinagar on Friday morning over a scheduled Friday rally in the valley.

“Let them (government) do whatever they want to,” Alam was quoted as saying before his arrest. “We will carry on with what we are doing. My message to people is that they should follow the Hurriyat program.”

Late on Thursday night, police moved to put Hurriyat chief Syed Ali Geelani and Alam under house arrest.

Pertinently, Geelani, Alam and other Hurriyat (G) leaders came under heavy criticism for their Wednesday’s rally.

After reports of waving of Pakistani flags and raising pro-Pak slogans made it to headlines, Mufti said such things are “not acceptable” and “will not be tolerated”.

Earlier, JK CM was called by Home Minister Rajnath Singh asking him to take “immediate and stringent” action against the law breakers.

Later, JK Police registered an FIR against Geelani, Alam and another Hurriyat leader under various sections of Ranbir Penal Code and Unlawful (Activities) Prevention Act.
