Popular Muslim cleric and the man behind “Ye pellet bullet, Na bhai na” slogans Sarjan Ahmad Wagay alias Barkati was Tuesday shifted to Central Jail Srinagar from Police Station Shopian.
A court had earlier quashed the Public Safety Act against the Barkati.
Barkati, who earned several sobriquets including ‘Freedom Chacha’ and ‘Pied Piper of Kashmir’ from local population after his videos chanting pro-Kashmir freedom slogans went viral, was arrested by Jammu Kashmir Police in October last year.
He was subsequently booked under the PSA.
Pertinently, his issue was also raised by incumbent Langate lawmaker Er Rasheed in the assembly.
