Two children were mauled to death by a pack of stray dogs in Handwara town of Baramulla district sparking massive protests.

Reports said that a pack of stray dogs appeared in Lacchipora village Monday afternoon and attacked two minor children, who were playing outside their house.

In the surprise canine attack, the two children identified as Sobia, 8, daughter of Farooq Ahmad Dar and Irfan, 10, son of Ghulam Mohammad Khan were seriously hurt.

Dozens of villagers rushed out of their houses on hearing the screams of the injured children.

“The children were removed to the hospital, where the doctors declared them brought dead,” reports said.

The tragic deaths triggered off massive protests by the locals in the area. Chanting slogans, the protesters alleged that the government has failed to provide security to the people, especially children from the canines.
