Independent MLA Langate Er Rasheed was Saturday arrested in Rajbagh area of Srinagar when he was marching towards State Human Rights Commission office.

Rasheed had last night said that he would lead a march from Sher-I-Kashmir Park Srinagar to State Human Rights Commission against the unabated Human Rights violations in Jammu & Kashmir to coincide with World Human Rights Day.

A spokesperson of Rasheed said that the authorities had denied permission to Rasheed for conducting a rally on Human Rights Day.

However, Rasheed later decided to march from his quarters in Jawahar Nagar area.

Rasheed, the spokesperson said, along with hundreds of supporters started marching towards SHRC office. “When we reached near New Era Public School, a huge contingent of police deployed there stopped us from moving ahead, Inam-un-Nabi, the spokesperson of Rasheed told Kashmir Life.

“We later held a sit-in there. However, police swung into action and arrested Rasheed along with hundreds of supporters.”

Rasheed on the occasion said that if Pakistan’s Prime Minister has showed willingness for a plebiscite in Kashmir, Indian PM Modi should respond to the statement positively. “The bloodshed of Kashmiris needs to be stopped once for all,” he said.

“During the rally, slogans like, Hai Haq Hamara Rai Shumari were raised.”
