SRINAGAR: Political parties have followed their ideological frames in paying homage to the people who were killed in the Tral encounter. While separatists have lauded the sacrifices of the militants, the unionists have paid tributes to the cop who was killed in the gun-battle.

Tral encounter has led to the killing of two militants, one of them a foreigner, as a cop was killed. Five others are reported injured. A house was destroyed in the encounter and the counter-insurgency grid was scanning the debris, till last reports came in.

In the clashes between cops and the agitated youth, almost 10 were injured, mostly by pellets. A top civil government official said four pellet hit were shifted to SMHS and the balance six were treated locally. Authorities had imposed curfew restrictions around the encounter site to prevent civilian interruptions.

Huriyat Conference chairman, Syed Ali Geelani paid glorious tributes to slain militants saying these youths are “sacrificing their precious lives for a sacred cause”. Terming it a “cherished and patriotic mission”, Geelani was quoted by his spokesman saying that these youths are “putting a huge responsibility on our shoulders (and it is) our duty to carry their mission to its logical end.”

“People of state are not war mongers, but through peaceful means urging India and world community to fulfill their pledge and resolve the political future of state,” the statement quoted him saying.

Referring to increasing incidents of encounters, Geelani said that “few black sheep in our folds as informers provide their service to forces for carrying (out) brutal killings”. He said they are “accountable for their wrongdoings”.

Hurriyat (m) in a statement said “the selfless sacrifices of lives in the just struggle for right to self determination were the priceless assets of the ongoing resistance movement” that have contributed in  not only brought international attention to Kashmir but also created an opinion that resolution of Kashmir issue was must for peace and prosperity of South Asia.
While top PDP leader and Education Minister Altaf Bukhari was part of the wreath laying of the slain cop, a resident of Slamabad Uri, NC spokesman issued a statement paying homage to slain cop Manzoor Ahmad Naik.

Son of Faqeer Mohammad Naik, a resident of Salamabad, Uri, Manzsoor is survived by an aged father, sister, brother, a pregnant wife and a four year old son Arzoo, a police spokesman said. After wreath laying, he was driven to Slamabad where he was laid to rest. Top police officers told reporters that Naik was the cop who risked his life and laid the charges – the explosives around the house where militants were holed up. It destroyed the house partly and later he in the midnight he volunteered to do the same for the rest of the house faced a volley of bullets and died after completing his assignment.

“We hope Constable Manzoor Ahmed Naik’s sacrifice will not go in vain and salute his service and his sacrifice”, NC Spokesperson Junaid Azim Mattu said, in a statement from the party headquarters. “We also pray for the complete recovery of those soldiers and policemen who sustained injuries in the attack including Army Major R Reshi who sustained a bullet injury.” He extended heartfelt condolences to the martyred policeman’s family and said the party stood in solidarity with them in their moment of loss and grief.

Meanwhile, Chief Minister Ms Mehbooba Mufti paid tributes to constable Manzoor Ahmad Naik of J&K Police who lost his life in an encounter at Tral today. She has also conveyed her sympathies with the family of the slain cop.

The Chief Minister said J&K Police has remained on the forefront to maintain peace and order in the State for which it has given a lot of sacrifices. She also wished speedy recovery of the jawans of Police and other security agencies who were injured in the encounter

Technically, the encounter is yet to be declared over. The last batch of reporters who had gone to cover the gun battle said the area was still under siege and the searches were going on.
