The traffic department here on Friday claimed it imposed 200 Challans with fine realization to the tune of Rs 75,000 in past ten days.

Irfan-ul-Islam, senior official in Regional Transport Office here told KNS that department has started campaign through print, electronic and social media making people aware of traffic rules and regulations.

“The drive is aimed to make public aware for obeying traffic rules by using seat belts, crash helmets, proper documentations, fitness of vehicles, avoiding wrong parking, overloading and over speeding etc,” he said.

He said that it has also started a rigorous campaign from last two months against violators of traffic rules and regulations.

“Mini buses, Sumo’s, Auto rickshaws, big buses, are among the vehicles challaned in last ten days,” Irfan said.

He said that the drive has been started on the directions on Transport Commissioner, Parvez Iqbal Khateeb. “He directed RTO Kashmir, Farooq Ahmad rather and ARTO flying squad, Abdul Majeed Rather to start the drive against the norm violators and counsel the violators to make Srinagar violate free area,” Irfan said.

He said that the people are day by day getting aware about the traffic rules and there is slight decrease in norm violation here, adding, “Auto-Rickshaws are on top in violating the norms as maximum of its drivers violate norms,” he said.
