The authorities Friday evening released detained Hurriyat (g) leaders who were arrested before Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s rally on November 7 to foil their ‘Srinagar Million March’.

Newly elected Secretary General of Hurriyat (g), Shabir Shah, National Front Chairperson and Hurriyat (g) Jammu province president Nayeem Khan, Hurriyat (g) chief spokesperson, Ayaz Akbar, Mehraj du Din Kalwal (Tehreek-e-Hurriyat leader) were released Friday evening after 28 days’ detention.

Shah and Khan were both lodged in Rajbagh Police Station, Ayaz Akbar in Parimpora, while Kalwal in Nowgam police stations.

However, family of Ayaz Akbar told KNS that he was put under house arrest immediately after being released.

The leaders have been released following protests and condemnation by the Hurriyat Conference.

Police sources said that those detained before Prime Minister’s rally were released today and the cases of others will also reviewed.

Sources said that the decision of releasing these leaders was taken after a high level meeting by the government few days ago.
