The protesters also closed the alternative road of Lasjan resulting in the stranding of thousands of vehicles on the highway.

Police and administrative officials have reached the spot to pacify the protesters however, the sit in was going on when the reports last came in.

Sources said that protesters have erected a tent at Kadlebal area of the saffron town and they are not allowing type of vehicle to move.

“We are stranded near Galandar since morning and we do not know the reason of the worst kind of traffic jam, Mohammad Ashraf travelling in a Sumo from Islamabad told Kashmir Life on phone.

Locals said that they are the victims of unscheduled power cuts during the ongoing winter season and they contacted the power department a number of times but of no use so they decided to close the highway to press for their demand.

Meanwhile Srinagar-Shopian road is also closed due to a protest at Drusoo.

The protesters are demanding a probe into the ‘mysterious’ death of a Sumo driver who body was recovered last evening.

The said sumo was recovered by police at Mirbazar Qazigund few days back.
