Huriyat Conference (G) on Thursday said that applying for the Indian passport in Kashmir is a ‘compulsion’.

“It is a simple issue that is trying to be made complicated. Indeed it is a compulsion for us to apply for an Indian passport from Kashmir. We have to use even Indian currency here. The debate being generated over the issuance of passport to Syed Ali Geelani is unfortunate and condemnable,” Huriyat (G) spokesperson Ayaz Akbar told KNS.

He added that the amalgam would not beg for the passport as it is the right of every person to travel. “If the passport is denied to Syed Ali Geelani – it is indeed worst Human Rights violation exhibited by the Indian state in Kashmir. How could issuance of the travel documents to any person wishing to meet his ailing daughter become a TV debate and political parties trying to get their share out of it,” Akbar said, adding that despite curbs are  being imposed on Geelani’s movement and it is illogical that authorities want him to fulfill the procedure for the passport.
