MLA Inderwal and senior Congress leader, Ghulam Mohammad Saroori, has submitted a private member bill in Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly demanding blanket ban on sale of liquor and Gutka in the state.

Saroori said that majority of growing incidents of crime in the state are linked with liquor including increase in crime on women.

“Tthe diseases caused due to use of liquor and Gutka are spreading in the state at an alarming rate and youths are falling prey to this menace,” he said adding, “the money spent on the treatment of these diseases is more than the revenue collected as tax by the government.”

Saroori said that if a state like Bihar could take a decision of banning liquor and Gutka trade then why not the government of Muslim majority state of Jammu and Kashmir.

He said that he is hopeful that government will allow safe passage of bill which is in the interest of future of our youths who are falling prey to the diseases caused due to use of liquor and Gutka.
