The J&K High Court Wednesday quashed the detention of Geelani led Tehreek-e-Hurriyat (TeH) activist under Public Safety Act and directed Police to release him.

Police had arrested TeH activist Mehrajuddin Ganaie son of Muhammad Maqbool of Zainakote HMT on charges of “stone-pelting and other anti-India activities”.

He had been booked under an FIR vide number 14/2/2016 under section 148,149,336,427 RPC while District administration had slapped Public Safety Act (DMS/PSA/4/15) on him after which he was shifted to District Jail Kupwara.

Justice Muzaffar Hussain Attar quashed his detention under PSA and directed police to release him.

Advocate Bashir Ahmed Tak pleaded the case of the accused TeH activist.

From past week, the High Court quashed the detention of at least 7 youths under Public Safety Act (PSA).
