The police resorted to heavy shelling and lathi charge in Maisuma area of Srinagar to thwart separatist leadership’s proposed sit-in against Sainik colonies, separate Pandit townships and “arrest spree of young boys.”

Resistance leadership had called for a sit-in protests against what they said “coercive measures” of PDP led government.

When scores of protestors tried to hold a sit-in, the police deployed in the area resorted to lathi- charge and heavy tear gas shelling, witnesses told Kashmir Life.

The protestors regrouped and pelted stones on police. When this report was being filed heavy shelling and stone pelting was going on in the area. The area is observing complete shutdown. Business establishments have shuttered down their shops while traffic is not plying on the roads.

Meanwhile, a boy named Ashiq from Maisuma who is already lodged in jail was slapped with PSA for the third time.
