Blaming Jammu and Kashmir’s political dynasties for the state’s backwardness and corruption, Peoples Conference (PC) chief Sajjad Lone Tuesday said that successive regimes in Jammu and Kashmir have made the state hub of corruption and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and National Conference (NC) are in race to achieve number one spot in corruption.

In a statement he said, “Muftis and Abdullahs kept J&K so backward and under-developed that it achieved the distinction of becoming the second most corrupt state in the country. The Abdullahs and Muftis destroyed Kashmir and exploited it for their own gains.”

“Corruption undermines democracy and governance. By flouting or even subverting formal process corruption reduces accountability, compromises with the rule of law. Corruption erodes the institutional capacity of the government if procedures are not followed, resources are siphoned off, and public offices are bought and sold, he said.

“J&K state is today at the top of the most corrupted states. This is what the Muftis and Abdullahs had to offer to the Kashmiris till date. NC and PDP are in race of being most corrupted. Both these parties are patronizing the corrupt and their leaders are involved in big scams,” Lone added.

Quoting examples, the PC chief said, the cricket scam, fertilizer scandal, supply of sub-standard pesticides and sprays are just the tip of the iceberg. “This is the high time that people of the state understand the involvement of the leaders of these politicians and use their vote with consciousness to eradicate the corruption from the state and show doors to the corrupt people,” Lone said.

He said that the PC would work towards making the state top ranking in development and ending corruption and dynastic rule of these families.
