Police Tuesday clarified in a statement that it did not stop the leaders of a mainstream political party from visiting Narbal yesterday.

National Conference had issued a statement yesterday alleging that its leaders were not allowed to visit the family of deceased Suhail Ahmad Sofi at Narbal to pay condolences.

“It is to clarify that Police did not stop anybody from visiting the family of the deceased,” a police statement said. However, the statement added, “the District authorities Budgam requested the leaders of the Political Party to delay their visit by some time as at that point of time, some separatists were at the mourners’ house and there was an apprehension of breach of peace had these leaders reached Narbal same time.”

The reports that the leaders of the mainstream Political Party were not allowed is according to police “factually incorrect”.
