Two persons have been arrested by police for allegedly duping people in the name of lottery in Srinagar.

Police sources told Global News Service (GNS) that following specific inputs, police carried out a raid at Karanagar and unravelled the modulus operandi of the youths for cheating the general public.

As per the police, the duo would tell people to purchase a biscuit or chocolate packet against Rs 3500 and they can win gift of gold chain, refrigerator, LCD or kitchen set depending on their luck.

But those who purchased the packet, they said, would always find a gift of rice cooker or lemon set or tea set, the cost of which ranges from Rs 800 to Rs 1200.

In this way, they said, the duo used to cheat gullible public and make huge money.

Subsequently, police have registered a case (under FIR no: 48/2015) under RPC section of 420 (cheating) against the duo identified as Zahid Mushtaq son of Mushtaq Ahmad Itoo and Mudasir Ahmad Itoo son of Mohammad Yousuf Itoo, both residents of Sonigam village in Tarigam area of south Kashmir’s Kulgam district.

When contacted Station House Officer (SHO) Karanagar, Parvaiz Ahmad confirmed and said that the duo has been arrested and large quantity of biscuits, chocolates and kitchen sets including kitchen items seized from their possession. “A vehicle Santro (JK18-2277) used in this racket has also been seized”.

The officer said that this seems to be full-fledged racket running across the state and “is possible operated from Sonigam village in Kulgam district.”

He said that further investigations have been launched and more arrests are expected in this connection.

He said that two other persons from same village were arrested last month for cheating people using same modulus operandi.
