Unseasonal windstorms on Thursday left behind a trail of destruction, damaging houses and levelling standing crops across South Kashmir’s Pulwama district.

PDP Youth President Waheed ur Rehman Para while expressing deep sadness over the damage done by the windstorm said, “Damage has been done to crops and almost 100 houses, but its extent is still not clear.”

“Pulwama town has been mainly affected by the windstorm. The district administration should access the situation,” he said.

He appealed to the Chief Minister of the state for compensation to the families, whose houses or crops have been damaged.

Meanwhile, Member of Legislative Assembly, Pulwama Mohammad Khalil Bandh today urged the District Administration Pulwama to constitute a team of officers to assess the losses caused to the crops and property due to the windstorm which hit various parts of the State yesterday.

Bandh called upon the District Administration to constitute a joint team of officers of Revenue, Horticulture and Agriculture Departments to conduct survey of Pulwama district including Kakpora, Shahoora and Pulwama town to assess the losses to property, standing crops, vegetables and orchards due to windstorm.

He asked the Administration to prepare a detailed report in this regard and submit the same to the Government. He also demanded that the Government should provide necessary compensation to the affected families on priority.
