Srinagar: Police and forces used tear smoke shells to disperse hundreds of protesters who tried to storm the encounter site in south Kashmir’s Shopian village Saturday, reports said on Saturday.

An encounter between the militants and forces had started in Chillipora, Sugan area late Friday night.

People early today started assembling around the encounter site and soon started pelting stones on the forces, reports quoting sources said.

The clashes between the protesters and forces were going on when reports last came in.

The clashes near the encounter site happened days after Indian army chief Gen Bipin Rawta’s statement that “those trying to disrupt the army operation against militants will be termed as OGWs of militants.”
