Army Friday morning said that one militant died in the encounter in North Kashmir’s Lolab in Kupwara district.
Srinagar based defence spokesperson told Kashmir Life the encounter started Thursday late evening. “One dead body of a militant has been recovered from the encounter site,” Col N N Joshi said.
He said that the encounter started in Potushai area and it is still going on. “Let us wait and see is there any other militant hiding,” he said when asked about number engaged in gun battle with army.
Reports said that a dead body was found in a pool of blood, just metres away from last night’s encounter site.
There had been a brief exchange of fire between forces and militants on Thursday evening near Jamia Masjid Kanthapora when forces cordoned off the area.
Massive protests erupted after the body was recovered this morning.
