Chief Minister Omar Abdullah Monday expressed his joy over the successful kidney transplant of his father and former state chief minister Farooq Abdullah.

“Dad and mum’s surgery was a success and the new kidney has started functioning. My family joins me in thanking all of U for yr support and prayer,” tweeted Omar.

The Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister had earlier said his thoughts were with his parents who are undergoing an organ transplant in the UK.

“My thoughts are with my parents as they both prepare for surgery today. I wish I could be there with them, but that wasn’t to be,” he tweeted yesterday.

Farooq Abdullah underwent a successful kidney transplant operation in London. According to reports, Farooq’s wife had donated her kidney for the surgery.

The National Conference leader could not take part in his party’s poll campaign for the state assembly elections, as he had been ailing for some time and was under treatment in England.
