The ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on Saturday slammed National Conference (NC) for demanding mortal remains of parliament attack convict, Muhammad Afzal Guru, and claimed that former Chief Minister (CM) Omar Abdullah decided the date and venue of Guru’s hanging.

According to GNS, while talking to reporters on the side lines of a function in Pulwama district, PDP youth leader and Political Analyst in CM’s office, Waheed-ur-Rehman Parra, said: “They (NC) hanged Afzal guru for their political survival and today they are doing politics on his mortal remains for their political survival again.”

He said that it is unfortunate that the NC, when in power, booked people and separatists and enforced curfew in the streets of Jammu and Kashmir when similar demand was being made for mortal remains.

“And now a year after, when they are out of power, they are making similar demands what separatists used to make. I think you have to understand this party is losing ground completely in Kashmir and whole of the state; they are frustrated. And, it is the manifestation of their frustration because they are out of the issues and their survival is dependent on these issues,” Parra said.

The PDP leader claimed: “It is hypocrisy on behalf of the NC because the venue and date of hanging of Afzal Guru was decided by Omar Abdullah himself as a CM. He was taken on board and he has given his consent to the hanging of Afzal Guru the way his father gave consent to the hanging of Maqbool Bhat.”

The PDP leader said that it is unfortunate that NC is politicizing the issue of death penalty and making separatist demand of bringing mortal remains.
