The National Conference candidate, Muhammad Yaqoub Wani, who filed his nomination papers on Thursday for Sangrama Assembly constituency in Baramulla district is a crorepati with the total value of his declared assets as Rs 16 crore.

According to the KNS correspondent, the  affidavit submitted by Wani (61), who is contesting elections for the first time, has movable and immovable property worth Rs. 16 crore.

He has more than 66 kanals of apple orchard land worth Rs 14 crore and two houses.

He has over Rs. 2 lakh cash in hand while his wife a retired Zonal Education Officer, Zareefa Wani, has Rs. 72,000.

“I am confident and sure that people will support and vote for me. I will win from here,” Wani told KNS.

Upbeat after filing his nomination papers, he claims of getting overwhelming response of people during his ongoing campaign in the seat which falls in Baramulla district.

“I am telling people that I will not promise the moon to you but I will try to develop this constituency as an IT hub and centre of education if I win,” he said.

He faces sitting legislator Basharat Bukhari of PDP and Congress candidate Shoib Lone.
